The Lay Community of St Benedict has a vibrant and diverse programme of events for young adults (16-30 yrs), dedicated to meeting people where they are at on their faith journey. A lively, gifted and welcoming group of young adults is involved in attending and running events of all kinds and for all ages.
Our programme is open to young adults of all traditions, backgrounds, and stages of faith or belief. Newcomers are welcomed through an open sense of Christian hospitality and friendship. Whilst many attending events are members, many others come along just for a taste of Benedictine spirituality, or to experience what the LCSB is about: but all are welcome!
The events we offer are varied reflecting the diversity of the people who take part. We aim to offer a sense of belonging and stability rooted in the Benedictine tradition, helping to deepen prayer lives and encouraging young people to listen and respond more fully to the Gospel message. We hope to guide people as they explore the meaning of their lives, creating an atmosphere of acceptance – a safe space – in which to search and share together.
A typical event will include talks/discussions/workshops, different kinds of prayer and worship, space and time for personal reflection, creative arts, sports/outdoor activities, and fellowship. Talks and discussions seek to inspire and guide young adults in their daily living, addressing crucial areas of the Christian spiritual journey through the wisdom of St. Benedict.
The Lay Community of St. Benedict Young Adult events are run mainly by people in their twenties. Currently, the community is employing a part time Outreach Worker who leads a team involved in ministry to other young adults.
Four members of the Young Adults group have launched a new project with the Lay Community of St. Benedict on 5 September 2005, being a residential community house in Brighton called the Elm Grove Community,
