The Lay Community of St Benedict teenagers are a very important and vibrant part of the Community!!
Teenagers mostly meet at Worth Abbey, when they come together from all over the UK, to build friendships new and old, to pray, play, eat, discuss, and just chill together. When they meet in this way, there are opportunities for private and group reflection, as well as games and music, hot chocolate and marshmallows... and cake.
Teenagers from all walks of life and religious backgrounds are welcome to all events - which range from the Easter Cross Walk and Celebration, to activities in Welsh Mountains, to a week of varied activities - music, drama, video, art, sport and discussion - in the summer. The teenagers themselves decide what they want to do, so their events and social activities are always for young people organised by young people. The Youth Team, who lead events, is made up primarily of young adults from within the Lay Community of St Benedict.
Through the teenagers' own Youth Forum, they are able to discuss issues of concern to them in their lives, ask questions, share thoughts or ideas, and discuss the events/activities they would like to create or be involved with in the future. This forum enables the Youth Team to cater for the needs, ideas, and talents of a diverse and ever growing community of young people.
Teenage activities also include group visits to other Christian youth events (Festivals like Bright Lights and H3, and days like Youth Gather! Or a week to Taize in France!) You do not need to be a member of any particular parish or chaplaincy group to come to a teenagers event - anyone is welcome.
At the core of all the teenage experience is their amazing talent at welcoming people. Every time they meet - always with a balance of new people and old - the teenagers successfully create a space where everyone can be themselves, explore a meaning to their lives... and have fun! All are made welcome!
Events do take place throughout the year! Please check out the Young People's events and activities page. If you wish to be added to our mailing list or for more information, contact Pete Emmott on 0845 4582994 or at youth@laybenedictines.org.
