The LCSB is dedicated to the Gospel and the spirituality of Saint Benedict. Members are married and single, men and women, young and old. We include lay people and those called to religious ministry from all parts of Great Britain and abroad.
The Lay Community of St. Benedict is not based in a specific location as members live in all parts of Great Britain and further afield. There are active regional groups and members are keen to develop local groups to attract those who are interested in Benedictine spirituality.
While our roots lie in the Catholic Church, members from other Christian traditions have always played a full part in the life of the community which seeks to create a ‘holy space’ where members can learn from one another and grow together in love and service of our creator.
Members of the Lay Community of Saint Benedict take the following promise every year:
In response to the call of Christ I offer myself to Almighty God
By the help of the Holy Spirit
With the love of the Lay Community of Saint Benedict
To live holy communion
Create holy space
And offer holy service
In the ways in which my circumstances allow.
We engage with the Gospel and the Rule of Saint Benedict to draw guidance and inspiration for living as Christians in the modern world. We are connected to one another through a shared commitment to prayer and meeting together regularly. We draw wisdom from the experience of Benedictine monastic communities, and like them, we seek to discover God’s love for us through a rhythm of prayer and the reading of scripture.
We are an active community, welcoming new members and developing relationships with current ones through a combination of retreats throughout each year. These include whole community gatherings at both Easter and in the Summer, as well as regular Teenage and Young Adult weekends plus frequent Regional Group meetings held around the UK.
